Where TeamPassword wins

TeamPassword has been built for small teams since 2014. The product is mature, the support team is responsive, and the activity log is genuinely useful for compliance-curious teams. The “groups + projects” mental model maps well onto agencies that organize by client.

The architectural gap

TeamPassword allows a team owner to reset a member’s master password. From the vendor’s side, that means there is a recovery path that touches the encryption key. That’s convenient for non-technical teams but it means the system isn’t truly zero-knowledge — the vendor (or a compromised admin account) has a path to access decrypted data.

LitePassword takes a stricter line. The master password derives the encryption key on your device, never leaves your device, and there is no admin reset. The only path to recovery is the recovery key you generate at setup and store yourself.

That’s a deliberate trade. It is less convenient — lose both your master password and recovery key, and your data is permanently unrecoverable. But it removes the “compromised admin” attack vector entirely.

Pricing for typical small teams

For a 5-person team:

  • TeamPassword Starter: $44/mo flat.
  • LitePassword Family: $5/mo flat. 9× cheaper.

For a 10-person team:

  • TeamPassword Business: $99/mo flat (up to 20 users).
  • LitePassword Business: $10/mo flat (up to 12 users). 10× cheaper.

LitePassword is dramatically cheaper at every team size up to 12 users. TeamPassword only catches up at 13+ seats (where their Business covers up to 20 and LitePassword’s cap is 12). At 13+ users, LitePassword isn’t the right product — that’s the cap, and the answer is to upgrade out to TeamPassword Business or 1Password Teams.

When to stay on TeamPassword

  • You already use the groups + projects organization and it fits.
  • You need an admin-initiated reset path for non-technical members.
  • You need the activity log today (we don’t ship it yet).
  • You’re at 13–20 users where TeamPassword pricing wins.

When to switch to LitePassword

  • You want true zero-knowledge (no admin reset path).
  • You’re under 12 users and the pricing gap matters.
  • Single-layer vault + per-user access is closer to how you actually work.
  • You want a free tier to evaluate before paying.
TEAMPASSWORD FAQ

Common questions when switching from TeamPassword

How is LitePassword different from TeamPassword on security?

TeamPassword allows an admin to reset a member password, which means there is a path from the vendor side to access encrypted data. LitePassword has no such path — the recovery key generated on your device is the only way to reset your master password. This is the technical definition of zero-knowledge.

Is LitePassword cheaper than TeamPassword?

For a 5-person team, dramatically — $5/mo flat vs $44/mo. The gap stays wide at 10 users: LitePassword Business $10/mo flat vs TeamPassword Business $99/mo flat — 10× cheaper. TeamPassword only edges ahead at 13+ users (where their Business covers up to 20 and LitePassword caps at 12).

Does LitePassword have an activity log like TeamPassword?

Not yet. The current product shows member list, roles, and per-vault access. A full activity log (who decrypted what, when) is on the roadmap for Business customers.

Can I import my TeamPassword vault?

Yes — export from TeamPassword as CSV and paste secrets into the matching LitePassword type. The general flow is documented in the [LastPass migration guide](/migrate/lastpass) and applies the same way.

Does LitePassword have the "groups + projects" model TeamPassword uses?

No — we use one layer (vaults + per-user access). Most small teams find a single layer easier to reason about. If you need nested organization, TeamPassword fits that mental model better.
