Where Dashlane wins

Dashlane is a great consumer product. The autofill experience is the best in the category alongside 1Password, the mobile apps are excellent, and the breach alerting actually works. If you want one tool that covers your personal logins, your family’s logins, and a VPN for travel, Dashlane Premium is hard to beat at $4.99/mo.

Where it stops fitting small teams

The Business pricing is where it gets uncomfortable for under-12 teams. $8/user/mo with a minimum seat count means a 5-person team is paying $40/mo for a feature set built around enterprise SSO, group policy, and SCIM provisioning that they will never touch.

That’s the gap LitePassword fills.

Same vault, less product

  • Same zero-knowledge architecture (AES-256, on-device key derivation).
  • Same five secret types (login, password, card, note, custom).
  • Same shared-vault model (private vault + shared vaults gated by role).

Removed:

  • The bundled VPN. Most teams already have one through Cloudflare WARP or NordLayer.
  • Dark-web monitoring. We don’t ship it; if breach alerts are core to your workflow, factor that in.
  • Group policies and SCIM. Three roles plus per-vault access is the entire model.

A typical evaluation: 5-person startup

  • Dashlane Team: $25/mo (5 seats × $5). You get autofill, the VPN, dark-web monitoring, and admin policy controls.
  • LitePassword Family: $5/mo total. You get vaults, three roles, per-vault access, recovery key, hard limits.

Switching saves $20/mo and removes a product whose surface area exceeds what you use. The trade-off is browser autofill, which we don’t ship today. For most small teams that copy-paste from a vault tab a few times a day, that trade-off is fine. For a sales team living in browser forms, it isn’t.

How the recovery key differs

Dashlane Business allows admin-initiated master password reset via account recovery. That’s convenient — but it means someone other than you can theoretically recover your data, which weakens zero-knowledge.

LitePassword has no admin reset. The recovery key generated on your device at master-password setup is the only path. You keep it; we never see it. If you lose both, your data is unrecoverable — by us, by your admin, by anyone. The trade is more discipline up front for cleaner cryptography afterward.

DASHLANE FAQ

Common questions when switching from Dashlane

Why pick LitePassword over Dashlane for a 5-person team?

Dashlane Team is $5/user/mo = $25/mo for 5 users. LitePassword Family is $5/mo total for 5 users. You also stop paying for the VPN and dark-web monitoring you may not be using.

Does LitePassword bundle a VPN like Dashlane?

No. The product is intentionally just the vault — we think bundling a VPN distracts from the security model we actually want to be evaluated on. Bring your own VPN; the average team is already paying for one through their corp account.

Can I migrate from Dashlane to LitePassword?

Yes. Export your Dashlane vault as CSV, then paste secrets into the matching LitePassword type. The flow is the same as the [Bitwarden migration guide](/migrate/bitwarden) at a high level.

Does LitePassword have browser autofill?

Not yet. We ship a web vault with one-click copy on every field. A browser extension is on the roadmap. If autofill is your team's primary daily workflow, Dashlane is still ahead today.

Is LitePassword zero-knowledge like Dashlane?

Yes — your master password derives a 256-bit key on your device. We store ciphertext only. The recovery model differs: LitePassword has no admin reset path, only your recovery key.
